Mardi Gras introduces a ‘Rainbow Zone’, and Calvin Harris joins the DJ lineup

The GLBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgender and Queer) community is on fire this year in preparation for the reinvention of the world class Mardi Gras event. The most major change, the introduction of the Rainbow Zone, is a bid to ensure audience members a more welcoming experience, and will see to it that all streets approaching Oxford Street and Flinders Street are closed off, not to everyone, only the antisocial clowns who find it necessary to rain on everyone else’s parade – pun intended. The numerous entry points will be staffed by fabulously attired welcome teams who are not only there to prolong the feelgood vibe but also to guide the audience to premium viewing spots.

The second bit of exciting Mardi Gras news is that Scottish electro guru, Calvin Harris, has decided to pop into the Mardi Gras Party at the Entertainment Quarter to play a few tunes. That’s right, he’s taking the night off from supporting Rihanna on her Australian tour to join ‘Godfather of House’ Frankie Knuckles, Larry Tee, and Murray Hood amongst others. Good things always come in three, so we guess we’ll just have to wait for the big night for the third and final exciting news announcement.

Mardi Gras Party takes place at the Entertainment Quarter on the 5th March from 10pm. For more information and ticket purchases visit,au/party
