Michael Angel

Australian designer done good in the US, Michael Angel gets an A-plus in geometry for his Spring 2011 collection which featured graphic cuts and bold patterns. The predominant feature was a double-layer wrap skirt with revealing front thigh slit, that could be mixed and matched with any of the tops in the range. Men’s dress shirts cut off at the breastbone lent a feminist touch to an otherwise rather feminine collection, while juxtaposing fabrics such as leather and silk, and cotton and latex gave way to interesting textures. Why this boy is not doing big things in Australia is beyond us, but then there is that tall poppy syndrome to contend with.
