For those who follow fashion religiously, Taschen’s ‘100 Contemporary Fashion Designers’ is the new age bible. Or bibles, since there are two volumes that make up the set: A-K and L-Z. Handpicked from Taschen’s Fashion Now! by I-D founder and creative director Terry Jones are the top 100 elite designers that continue to be fashion forward at the dawn of the 21st century. From A (Ackermann, Alaïa, Armani) to Z (Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein), the list covers a cross-section of industry legends and up-and-coming new talent. Each profile comes complete with a succinct bio, a tailored question-and-answer interview, and a gallery of designer highlights from past collections. 100 Contemporary Fashion Designers is not only a feast for the eyes, but also an indispensible reference for anyone with a future in fashion. The only criticism we’d give it, is that it lacks in Australian designers, and we’re certain the likes of Akira, Nicola Finetti and Toni Maticevski could have made the cut.
