Not so much music to some people’s ears…

As we’re sure you’re well aware, the illegal downloading of music is getting out of control. While we all feel safe behind our keyboards, poised and ready over the ‘download’ button, let’s just take a second to think about poor Jammie Thomas-Rasset. He is not one of those friend-of-a-friend urban myths that the music industry has spread in hopes of fearing us all into download reclusion, but some American guy who copped a $1.5million fine for clicking that green button of free goodness twenty four times.

Governments worldwide are starting to take this epidemic a little more seriously, for example the closure recently of frontrunner enablers LimeWire. Tactics involving the likes of raffle ticket style reimbursement of music credit cards are being tossed around after the reasonably successful Carte Musique scheme was launched in France

Basically the music men are trying out a different approach; appealing to our better nature rather than fear through ludicrously large fines. And as a result how do the people respond? By tuning into the thousands other downloading sites which are starting to boast IP address protectors, thus making tracking down nigh to impossible. And so the music industry enters an even darker age…

Pictured, the Skullcandy Aviator headpones, used to tune in to your legally downloaded music, of course.
