Sydney was announced as the best cruise port at the Cruise Passenger Awards held at the Observatory Hotel earlier this week. In the 2010/11 season, the city broke all records with 154 cruise ship visits to its port, a 30 per cent increase on last year. It is estimated that close to $200 million is spent by cruisers on visits to the New South Wales capital. The winner of Best Luxury Cruise Line, Silversea, will see the maiden voyage of its new ship, Silver Spirit, on March 1st 2011. Princess Cruises came up trumps as Best Premium Cruise Line while P&O Cruises won in the Best Mid-Range Cruise Line category. Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal will mark its 50th Anniversary on December 23rd this year, half a century after the first P&O Cruises vessel docked in 1960.
