Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto

The collaboration that is Y-3 has seen Adadas and Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto carve out a new category in fashion as they redefine conceptions of sportswear. Their Spring/Summer 2011 collection features a heavy use of black, traditional Japanese tailoring, loose fitting and harem style pants and cropped bustiers, and for the most part, any semblance of sportiness is lost in favour of the urban, the underground, and the chic. The sportswear aesthetic may be hard to spot, but Adidas remains committed to the preserving the functionality of the garments, making the Y-3 collaboration as seamless as it is innovative. This was one of the most impressive shows in the September collections at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. Super slick styling.
