Vivid lineup looks like being the youngest lot of groovers to grace the good Sydney festival yet

Whoever said winter was boring and drabby needs a swift kick up their padded butt, or maybe they just pointed in the direction of Vivid LIVE – Sydney’s grand festival of light, music and ideas. Each year a prominent individual is selected to curate an array of events and this year we get big-man-on-campus Modular founder Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic, who has apparently been roped in to lend a more youthful aspect to the event. Described as being meticulous, tenacious and fearless in his planning, Pav brings us 30 events and eight Australian musical premieres, with almost every artist exclusive to Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera House from May 27 to June 5 (so hardly any sideshows – be warned). Managing to wrangle an international smorgasbord of musical genius, a bill has been provided that includes the very lovely Bat For Lashes (pictured), turntable geniuses 2ManyDJs, kooky ambient music makers Spiritualized, multi-instrumentalists Architecture In Helsinki, sample-mongers The Avalanches (hooray!), Tame Impala, Van She, and Bag Raiders. As you can tell by this lot alone, it’s going to be huge, it’s going to get crazy, and it’s going to be one hell of a winter.
