Glamazons hit the decks

EMI look after some of the biggest names on the international DJ circuit: think David Guetta, Deadmau5, Chemical Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Miami Horror… But it seems their artist lineup was lacking in one area: none of them look very good in a skirt. Up until now.

Enter ‘She Can DJ’ an EMI A&R initiative with the aim of discovering the southern hemisphere’s finest female DJs and putting them on the international map. After receiving a phenomenal amount of entries from around Australia and New Zealand, the top ten was announced this fortnight and stars the impressive deck-loving likes of (left to right) Leah Mencel, Sarah Robertson, DJ Femme, Claire Morgan, Amber Savage, Helena, Gabby, Minx, Alison Wonderland, and Rachel Andrews.

It’s been a worthwhile battle for the entrants, with each of the finalists getting the opportunity to take to the decks alongside She Can DJ’s international ambassador Sarah Main (direct from Pacha Ibiza) at a glamorous party to be held at the Ivy on September 14. The winner, once announced, will get a global recording contract with EMI plus a trip to a batch of Ibiza’s biggest closing parties in 2011.

Over the next few weeks, finalists can be seen and heard on Nova Nights with Christo & Katie from August 29 to September 9, Club [V] every Friday from August 12 to September 10 and on Tune in and be spun out.
