Perth’s GLBT community show out for Pride

Some of the cast of ‘Chicago’ were there. Olive Newton-John was there. And Dorothy, The Tinman, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and Wicked Witch of the West too. The occasion was to celebrate Perth Pride, and patrons dressed to the Nines (pun intended) for The Court Hotel’s musical theme. Even photographer Angelo Di Benedetto couldn’t resist a little makeup himself, arriving in full tattooed makeup a la Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ video buddy, Rick Genest. Guests opted from looks as wild as characters from ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ to pared-back 50s rockabilly style as seen in ‘Grease’. The entertainment ran the gamut of musical, too, with cabaret performances and ‘All That Jazz’ heating up indoors, and DJ Lisa Lashes and singer Zoe Badwi tearing up the stage outdoors. The only critique we’d offer is that Lashes’ DJ set could have been a little less hardcore instrumental and perhaps more vocal-based, but alas the gal has got her own style. If ‘Pride’ is about celebrating the diversity of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, The Court succeeded in putting on an eclectic gig. A spot of dancing at Connections later in the morning, greeted by drag doyennes Val Nourished and Del Vira was also called for, with punters partying till sunrise. Bring on an even brighter Pride theme for next year, we say!
