Duran Duran impress with new live DVD

This scribe has had the pleasure of seeing Duran Duran live twice as well as having interviewed both Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes on separate occasions. Okay, I admit it, I’m a major Duranie. Have been since the release of their first single in Australia eons ago, Planet Earth. Back then, as a teen, I never got to catch the guys performing live so when seeing them for the first time at an outdoor festival a while ago, I wondered if they could pull of all that charisma on stage as well as they do in their music videos. A resounding yes, they can.

Proof of this is the new release on Blu-ray and DVD or Duran Duran: A Diamond In The Mind, a gem of a live recording at MEN Arena in Manchester late last year. This stunning live show presents the excellent music, amazing visuals and iconic style that Duran Duran have stood for, for some 25 years.

Featured are live performances of classic hits including The Reflex, Careless Memories, Ordinary World, Hungry Like The Wolf, and Wild Boys (segued cleverly with Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Relax). Then there’s the latter part of the boys’ discography including fab singles All You Need Is Now (from their latest album of the same name) and Girl Panic! (exclamation mark imperative!).

Fans of Duran Duran would have been waiting a while for a live video that excels like previous offering such as Arena have. And this is the vid to impress them. Newbies to the group will also enjoy the show, with all its postmodern  visuals and ever-so familiar and catchy tunes. Invest.

Bonus features include interviews with band members and behind-the-scenes footage to show how the pop life should really be lead.
