The Jagermeister Independent Music Awards is different to most Australian award events in that it hones in on the brightest emerging artists on the Oz music scene as well as paying respects to established performers.

Following  12 months of exceptional music on the indie circuit, this year’s nominees are impressive and set to cross over the charts in no time.

Newcomer electronic-beat-pop musician Chet Faker leads the pack with five nominations, closely followed by hip-hop artist 360 earning four, and first-time nominees, garage punk act Royal Headache gaining attention in three categories. All three are nominated in the category of Best Independent Artist, alongside previous contenders, The Jezabels and Ballpark Music.

Our pick for Best Independent Album are The Temper Trap (nominated alongside 360, DZ Deathrays, The Jezabels and Royal Headache), and for Best Independent Single, San Cisco (for the song Awkward) who are up against Alpine, 360, Chet Faker and Oh Mercy.

The Jagermeister Independent Music Awards will be held on Tuesday 16 October, 2012 at Revolt, 12 Elizabeth Street, Kensington, Sydney.
