While Perth can boast being Australia’s fastest-growing city and the nation’s strongest performing capital, it can also be proud to say it will have its own edition of the internationally famous board game, Monopoly come year’s end.

The city’s Lord Mayor, Lisa Scaffidi, made the announcement today to a select group of media, accompanied by Mr Monopoly himself – donning that familiar blue striped suit and black velvet top-hat.

When asked whether incomplete properties in the city such as Elizabeth Quay along Riverside Drive and even Perth Arena might be included in the final selection of the board game, Scaffidi told Cream, “We shouldn’t be limited to what’s in existence already, and I think the waterfront – or Elizabeth Quay – should be considered as one of the places because, without doubt, when it is complete it is going to see something like nine million visitors per annum, so it’s certainly going to be a landmark of the future.”

Perth residents can have their say as to what hot properties should make it onto the Perth edition of the game, with the final selection of landmarks and addresses to replace the traditional likes of London’s Mayfair, Pall Mall and The Strand.

From today until June 16, Monopoly enthusiasts can nominate their suggestions via the Perth Monopoly Facebook page or by emailing

Winning Moves, the game’s manufacturers – under license from Hasbro – promises the game will be on shop shelves just in time for Christmas.
