If it’s good enough for the Material Girl… fashion for a good cause

Inspired by the philanthropic efforts of music icon Madonna, Brisbane-based student Jacqui Toumbas has created an event to raise funds for poverty-stricken children in West Africa.

Catwalk To Compassion is a fashion event that will feature runway shows from Queensland-grown labels Teal and Tala, and Red Square clothing, with all proceeds going towards building a new clinic, toilet block and handwashing bays in the Syke Street school of Freetown in Sierra Leone, W. Africa.

According to World Vision, more than 6,000 children under the age of five die each day from lack of basic sanitation and hygiene. It was this kind of shocking statistic that saw Jacqui putting pen to paper to strategise Catwalk To Compassion.

The event will take place on August 16 (Madonna’s birthday, funnily enough), from 7pm in the new Rainbow Room at the Cloudland bar, Brisbane. To purchase tickets visit the Catwalk To Compassion Facebook Page.
