Perth fashion icon Ruth Tarvydas dead outside her home
In what has been a tragic year for style icons, yet another fashion personality has died.
Designer Ruth Tarvydas was found dead outside her East Perth apartment this morning.
Details are somewhat sketchy but reports suggest she died of natural causes, since friends said she was rather jovial the days prior.
Tarvydas had been facing financial difficulties over the past couple of years, forced to close her Perth CBD store in 2012, and later opening another store in Claremont.
She was a fixture on the Australian fashion circuit, and even sold clothes to high-end designer stores in London including Selfridges and Harrods, while high-profile clients have included Rihanna, Emma Watson and Amy Winehouse. She started in fashion design as a teen in the ’60s and stuck with the industry through its unpredictable ups and downs.
This year has also seen us lose fashion icons in L Wren Scott, Charlotte Dawson and Peaches Geldof, all through either suicide or overdose.
