‘Avatar’ to be turned into a mammoth arena spectacular
You know those dudes who run around New York City painted blue all over and doing all kinds of theatrical stuff? Well if you can imagine them going all sci-fi style and being given a few million dollars more to put on a bigger show, you could imagine (well, kinda) the great big blue extravaganza that will soon be ‘Avatar: The Arena Spectacular’.
Yes, Academy Award-winning director James Cameron has announced that he will be working with the folks behind Cirque du Soleil to turn his sci-fi epic into a potent live show that will tour internationally.
What looks like being an absolute monolith of a production, the arena spectacular is expected to premiere in 2015, following the release of the first ‘Avatar’ film sequel.
Twentieth Century Fox, the studio behind the Avatar franchise, will also be a major partner of the live show.
In a statement this week, Cameron said: “I know we [he and Cirque du Soleil and share the common goal of bringing audiences to another level of entertainment experiences, and I look forward to doing just that on this project.”
This isn’t the first time the director has worked with Cirque, having previously put together a film with the talented theatrical group back in 2012, called ‘Cirque du Soleil: World’s Away’.
