Recipes for life

Coastline 680

As the old saying goes, you are what you eat. It might sound quaint, but it appears to sum up our modern relationship with food, where what goes on the plate is as much about feeding the soul as it is about feeding the belly.

This food-as-lifestyle approach is very much at the forefront of two new cookbook releases, the Mediterranean-themed Coastline and the new-age stylings of Hippie Lane. In both cases, eating well goes right alongside living well.

Coastline Artichokes

In Coastline, by Lucio Galletto and David Dale, readers can breathe in intoxicating atmosphere of the Mediterranean coast. Here, the food is full of colour and energy, where eating itself becomes a celebration. Complimented by the gorgeous scenic images, the dishes come to life before your eyes.

Hippie Lane final

Taline Gabrielian’s Hippie Lane, on the other hand, conjures up a very different food experience, with its strong emphasis on healthy living including, of course, vegetarian and organic options. The food on display is perhaps a little less refined, but that makes it no less mouth-watering. Hippie Lane presents its dishes in a way that appeals to the cook at home who is short on time but is after something big on taste.

With both books released this month, food lovers will no doubt be out in force to secure their copies.

Food is, after all, the stuff of life.  Chris Prindiville
