The weekend hasn’t officially begun, yet already I’ve spent half my Friday clinking flutes of Taittinger with celebrity chef Jack Stein and swapping fusion recipes with culinary genius Manu Feildel. You too could be so lucky (well, at least get to see and hear Jack and Manu speak on the subject of food, glorious, food) when you make your way down to the Good Food & Wine Show in Perth, where all things fabulously gastronomic are taking place this weekend.

Upon entering the venue (the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre), you’ll be greeted with the aromas of tantalising produce: the smell of gourmet burgers being grilled in one corner, wafts of rich cheeses lacing the air, and the sweet scents of baked goods and spiced teas coming from various stalls.

Now in its tenth year, the Good Food & Wine Show is bigger, bolder, brighter and better than before. There are pop-up restaurants with room to move, wine tastings aplenty, a market’s worth of artisanal foods to entice you, and more culinary information than you could poke a wooden spoon at.

Who’d have known, for example, that you could enjoy wine in your ice cream? At the Vino Mofo stand, you’ll get to taste this heavenly grafted concoction, while also sampling fine white and red wines.

Another stand-out stall for this avid foodie is Secret Bottle – a wine club offering customers a series of curated wines per month, each varietal encased in a trusty test tube, and safely delivered to your door.

Also on the must-visit list are Great Southern Truffles – a W.A. born providore of the finest truffle oil and cheeses, too, infused with the good rich stuff; 79Tu – who offer healthy blends of turmeric teas; and Antichi Sapori – caterers of fine Italian foods, boasting more varieties of arancini than even this Sicilian kid knew existed (start with something saucy and savoury and end with something chocolaty and sweet).

Visitors ought to bring a big fat notebook with them, as live presentations are being hosted throughout each day, with cooking tips and culinary tricks revealed by Jack, Manu, and a host of other famed kitchen dignitaries like Matt Moran, Gary Mehigan and Adam Liaw.

In sum, if you enjoy delving into daring and innovative areas of food and drink, you’ll get a great lot out of the Perth Good Food & Wine Show. In fact, there’s so much delectable stuff on offer, you’ll do well to bring along a big shopping trolley to carry it all home in.
