Comedic actress Rebel Wilson was laughing all the way to the bank today when it was announced she won her defamation case against Bauer Media over allegations the publishing house had falsified editorial about the actress.

In June, an all-female jury ruled that several titles in the Bauer stable had defamed Wilson by claiming she lied about her real name, age, childhood and even about a family connection to Walt Disney. The articles appeared variously in Bauer titles Woman’s Day, Australian Women’s Weekly, OK! and NW magazine in May 2015.

While Rebel was happy to settle for $200,000 and promised she’d give the money to charity if she’d win, the Victorian Supreme Court ordered Bauer to pay $4,567,000 in compensation, stating the figure was appropriate in vindicating Wilson after her reputation had been wrongly damaged.

The figure is a record amount for a media defamation case in Australia, almost four times the previous record.

Rebel Wilson insists she will stick to her promise to donate the money to charity.  Antonino Tati
