Cut Copy Haiku Cover

Take one look at the news these days and you could be forgiven for thinking that the sky is about to fall down. So, what a welcome relief it is to bask in the warm glow of Cut Copy’s latest album release, Haiku From Zero.

Right from the start, the album has you buzzing from all the good vibrations. Bursts of bright, shiny guitar, pulsating dance beats and soaring vocals are the order of the day. In short, all the ingredients you need to make a great pop record.

Don’t let the dance label get in the way, this is pop in its purest form: upbeat and uncomplicated. The second track, Counting Down, is a clear standout, with its thrilling falsetto vocal, washes of shimmering guitars and driving beat making for a truly overwhelming – in the best sort of way - listening experience.

There is an anthemic quality to much of the music, which not only gets you moving but moves you. Mind, body and soul all get a workout here. I, for one, can’t think of a better musical pick-me-up than No Fixed Direction, whose chorus implores you to sing along.

This is a contact high that looks set to last for some time to come.   Chris Prindiville
