Hundreds of people have been injured and at least 50 have been shot dead following open-fire from a gunman at an open-air concert at Mandalay Bay casino complex in Las Vegas this morning (Sunday night, USA).

The Mandalay was hosting its annual Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival, when a gunman took aim from up high on the hotel’s top floors, hitting pockets of crowds below. Witnesses say fatalities were occurring right beside them as they tried to flee the venue by foot.

At least 50 people are reported dead. Hundreds of gunshot wound victims are being rushed to the Las Vegas University Medical Centre for treatment, with a hospital spokesperson confirming at least 200 people are badly injured, many of these in critical condition.

LA Police recently tweeted: “Confirming one suspect is down. This is an active investigation. Again, please do not head down to the Strip at this time.”

It was initially assumed the dead suspect, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, was acting as a lone wolf in the shooting attacks, but police have since turned their focus in a hunt for a female accomplice witnessed at the scene of the crime.  Antonino Tati

UPDATES | OCTOBER 03, 2017:

Las Vegas Police now report the toll has risen to at least 59 people killed and 500-plus injured in the Mandalay Bay shooting tragedy.

Authorities discovered at least 17 guns in the hotel room of the Las Vegas shooter, along with two devices that were attached to the stocks of semiautomatic guns to allow fully automatic gunfire.

The FBI said it had found “no connection with an international terrorist group”.

Marilou Danley, a 62-year-old Australian woman, has been identified as Paddock’s room-mate and girlfriend. She was initially named as a person of interest, but was out of the country at the time of the attack and has been cleared of any involvement.
