Hitler Versus Picasso @2x

History, art and human drama are combined in the immersive new documentary Hitler Versus Picasso, recently hitting cinemas nationally.

The doco is rather intense as it presents the Nazi’s complicated relationship with classical and modern art, stealing and keeping much of the former while looting and destroying a lot of the latter.

In 1937, the Nazi regime held two exhibitions in Munich: one to stigmatize ‘degenerate art’ and the other, personally curated by Adolf Hitler, to glorify ‘classic art’.

The film is peppered with masterpieces by Botticelli, Matisse, Monet, Klee, Chagall, Renoir and Gaugin, and truly is an astonishing presentation of what happens with great things when they fall into the hands of terrible people.  Antonino Tati
