THE NEW. RETRO. MODERN.

Yes, Taylor Swift won Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ but I want to know more about that cat…

Time magazine has named Taylor Swift its Person of the Year, after she appeared to plaster most of the internet and music charts for the better part of 2023.

It’s the first time Time has named a sole music artist as its Person of the Year, a campaign which has been running since 1927. Back then it was called Man of the Year and the prize went to pilot Charles Lindbergh for making the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. My how our award criteria has changed.

Regarding Taylor being honoured, Time wrote: “While her popularity has grown across the decades, this was the year that Swift, 33, achieved a kind of nuclear fusion: shooting art and commerce together to release an energy of historic force.” Wow, what a way to get the word ‘nuclear’ in there for added clickbait!

But forget Swift for a moment; I want to know more about that gorgeous cat she has hanging around her neck on one of the Time covers (are people still collecting all three?).

Turns out it’s actually Swift’s cat and that he goes by the name of Benjamin Button.

The Ragdoll cat got his name from Brad Pitt’s character in the sadcore film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a story about a man who ages in reverse.

You may have seen Benjamin the cat before, since he has appeared in several of Swift’s music videos.

Taylor actually met Benjamin on the set of a music video he randomly appeared in. After shooting, she got to know the cat a little better and simply had to own him.

The rest, as they say, is purr-story.
