When fashion launches with astro-turf instead of red carpet, you know you're onto something with a little spring. This year's Melbourne Spring Fashion Week cache of couture has fused post-winter style, polish and cutting edge Melburnian culture with cover girls Ruby Rose and Lucy McIntosh bringing gritty glamour to the weeklong festival. Our pick of the week were the silken flows of Akira Isogawa (example pictured), gliding Grecian frocks of Gwendolynne, and the dramatic ruffled statement gown of Aurelio Costarella which fronted a spectacular visage of nude tones, corsetry and the aptly chosen auburn locks of Aussie model Alice Berdeu.
Coral tones made an unexpectedly strong splash this week with Yeojin Bae's simple, fresh designs and pantsuits washing this difficult shade ashore, while a strong emphasis on ready-to-wear from the likes of Megan Park and the ever-feminine Manning Cartel have reminded all and sundry that highbrow pieces are allowed to be wearable. Innovation and celebration has comprised a large chunk of this year's line-up with a large selection of pieces showcased by RMIT design students and excitingly fresh shows from Melbourne independents such as Amourette and Eva Q. One thing's for sure, this season certainly has more spring in its step than the last. |

If you thought Zoe Saldana was hot as a giant blue alien, wait till you see her in the new Calvin Klein underwear campaign. Envy is the third and final instalment of the Calvin Klein Underwear Coverage Level System - a revolutionary shopping system designed to assist women to find the perfect fit and coverage from lots to less. Suitably, the racy new campaign features Ms Saldana with a more revealing silhouette, flaunting a sleek sexy look with minimal coverage. The campaign has embraced marketing advances with the launch of a micro site - www.nothingtohide.com - where you can view three videos of the muse as she uncovers, reveals and shares little known details about herself whilst flouncing around looking all provocative. Also for your viewing pleasure are a series of photos shot by fashion photographer Mikael Jansson, which along with the videos, will provide a saucy campaign for Calvin Klein and the label's innovative ideas. |
